Paediatric occupational therapy uses specialist approaches and treatment techniques to maximise a child’s participation, achievement and independence.
No formal referral is necessary. Children can be referred by their parents, teacher, child health or school nurse, family GP, paediatrician or other health provider.
Up to five sessions of child’s occupational therapy per calendar year may be partially covered by Medicare if your child has a chronic condition (ie. a condition that has lasted or is expected to last more than 6 months). A plan must be made in consultation with your GP.
Once your GP has arranged a referral under a plan, provide your referral to OT to GO in order to start accessing rebates. Currently you will have to pay first and your receipt will allow you to claim at Medicare. Call Medicare for the most up to date rebate amounts. Please contact your GP for further information about setting up a plan. For further details please access The Department of Health and Ageing’s website, or Medicare website.
Yes. OT to GO therapists are registered providers for Occupational Therapy with all major health funds. Rebates vary according to your provider and level of ancillary cover. Please contact your private health fund to enquire about the level of cover on your policy. The claim code for initial assessment is H100 and for individual therapy sessions (of 45 minutes) is H250.
All therapy will take place at the child’s school/home or other community setting. Suitable times will be arranged with parents and/or with the child’s teacher.
The first step will involve assessing your child. A questionnaire will be provided to you and your child’s teacher. It is helpful if these are completed and provided on the day of assessment. Assessments take between one to two hours, depending on the age of your child and his/her needs. Please ensure that glasses and any current equipment such as pencil grips are with your child.
You will then be given a comprehensive report outlining in detail your child’s strengths, any difficulties, and recommendations for home and school. If treatment is recommended it usually takes place weekly, in sessions of 45 minutes length (occasionally 30 minutes or one hour).
For your convenience invoicing and payment is completed online. After your child’s therapy session an invoice will be emailed to you, which you can pay by direct debit. You will then be emailed a receipt which you can use to claim benefits. If you are unable to pay online please make alternative arrangements with your child’s therapist.
